The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer who will define the standard of excellence in data engineering for VectorOne. You will unpack requirements and push back on requests that do not create real business value. To you, understanding the why of data processing is as important as the how.

You will define what data engineering excellence means through the application of testing methodologies and quality controls, including unit and integration tests, schema checks, and reconciliation processes that verify data completeness and accuracy. You care deeply about data lineage, governance, and access. You’ve mastered techniques for data obfuscation, encryption, and enforcing row- or column-level security in at least one modern data platform.

You will build and maintain our shared data engineering libraries, codifying reusable transformations and business rules as UDFs, macros, or Python functions. These libraries will act as force multipliers, providing downstream engineers and analysts with consistent, tested building blocks to accelerate business outcomes.

You will design abstractions that insulate our core models from the proprietary APIs of Databricks, Snowflake, and Palantir, ensuring that business logic and pipelines remain portable. And you know when to reach for single-machine tools like Pandas, Polars, or DuckDB versus distributed engines like Spark.

What You’ll Do

• Architect and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Partner with Applied AI Engineers to ensure clean data for ML.
• Model data inside tools like Palantir Foundry, Snowflake, and Databricks.
• Ensure data quality, governance, and lineage across ventures.
• Evaluate/introduce new data tools as we scale.

What We’re Looking For

• 7+ years in data engineering/analytics engineering.
• Deep expertise in Python + data processing technologies (Spark, dbt, Kafka, Pandas, DuckBD, Polars, etc)
• A strong background in Palantir Foundry is a huge plus.
• Provable experience guiding data strategy on complicated projects/models.
• Comfortable using a Founder mindset to shape strategy in ambiguous environments while driving execution.
